Dev Log V
January 1, 2026
As we enter the new year, we want to provide a brief update on our progress. We’ve been very busy setting up infrastructure on our end, reviewing developer applications, and planning development. It is not easy to make an indie game like this. We do plan to query publishers and investors. However, we are also comfortable making the game ourselves if needed. Community support is invaluable. For anyone who’s taken the time to see our studio’s portfolio for what it is, and can be, making the decision to support us regardless of our industry status is truly meaningful.
First, after internal talks, we’ve decided on October 31st 2027 as a realistic launch date for 1.0. While we think we could speedrun a very tiny Early Access by May 2027, we want to launch the game in its true form. In the course of discussions, we’ve decided to scrap the idea of Early Access and simply release a small-scale 1.0 straight-up. However, it should remain known our 1.0 is essentially equivalent in spirit to an Early Access. We’re changing the language we’re using to better fit what it is we’re going for in our first launch. The whole energy of Early Access gives the gaming world an impression we don’t find fits the game. We would rather publish the game in an official form.
So, right now, we plan on an October 2027 release. Halloween 2027 is the official 1.0 launch date. Come Halloween, Chaoscraft absolutely will launch in whatever state it exists insofar as it is playable – no matter what. Even if, come Halloween, it remains in a very small-scale, limited state, we will still launch it in this state and continue to market and develop as we receive community input and tune.
We are not concerned whatsoever with semantic quibbles about any of these terms, what they mean, or what they reflect about us. We’re a small team of devs making a big MMO we share a mutual passion for. That’s all that matters to us.
A reminder to any who see the true potential of Chaoscraft in the future of MMOs: We will launch on our own independent launcher. We are not on Steam. We will be active on social media but it is this website that is the game’s home. A subreddit, wiki, and Discord to come in the near future. Stay tuned for updates, and if you want to show us support, buy a copy of Chaoscraft and Castle of Nightmares and donate to our crowdfund. All contributions make a real difference.
So there is no ambiguity, when this Dev Log is eventually read publicly: Launch will be scuffed. It is not a question of whether it will be. It will be. Expect it. This is us keeping it real. It will be scuffed irrespective of when and how we launch the game. It is in its nature.
We are prepared for this. Currently, our plan is to begin 1.0 with a very low-pop realm or set of realms, ideally with softcore, risk, and hardcore types. Realms will likely begin as the northern cherry blossom region of Twilight Forest. If we have the resources, we’ll also release an initial version of Dusty Hills to test hardcore PvM. Brood of Smogbreath could feature as a first raid and testing ground for future raids.
We mean it when we say 1.0 may only be the northern region of Twilight Forest to start. We do not set unrealistic expectations for our audience. If we can fit an Arena map or two into development, we’ll also see off-season 1v1, 2v2, and/or 3v3 circuits.
Come around October, we’re looking to go live with a launcher on this site. Players will be able to test open world, ranked versus, and hardcore PvM. Each of these testing grounds will be heavily limited, we’ve been transparent, given our limited resources. As we continue to receive community support, our resources will expand and thus will our ability to expand the game.
We’re a team of three devs, at this time. Actual small indie company. We hope to build our core team by February. Then, we’ll have a full six months to crank out what we’ve outlined: Twilight Forest, Dusty Hills, Arena, and, ideally, some form of a test raid. Given the nature of game development, we cannot guarantee all of this. This is our plan. We do guarantee Chaoscraft 1.0 will launch on Halloween regardless of the state it’s in. We do not follow the paradigm a game must be “finished” to launch 1.0. Every game evolves over time. As long as the game has some substance to it, and can be properly called a game, we’ll launch it Halloween. We’re aware this is not everyone’s ideal. We’ll do it anyway. There is no version of Chaoscraft where every single planned part exists at 1.0 release. It will launch and be what we envision, then continue development.
We’ll continue to post Dev Log updates monthly, sharing our progress and future development material. We remain in early stages. Patience from the community is greatly appreciated. Input of any kind – positive, critical, or otherwise – is also appreciated.
If you want to support the project in the meantime, aside from buying a pre-order or donating, you can share this site, follow our social media, and mention it to your favorite creators. We’ve made clear: We will not publish on any distribution platform. This MMO will launch on this website, like a number of MMOs before it. It’s an indie project, through and through.
We’ll keep the MMO community posted. We know there are gamers out there who see this and want a new game like it. We’re going to make it soon. Your support allows us to significantly improve our ability to.
