Frequently Asked Questions

“Are you insane?”
Not exactly. Although according to at least two psychologists, more or less. Sometimes I wonder if I’m the only sane one on the planet. I look around and I wonder what happened. It makes you scratch your head. Where did the flying skulls go? If wanting them back makes me mad, then, I suppose I’m mad.

“Why does the site look like it was made in the 1990s?”
Because it basically was. When I was a young lad, our internet machines used to make loud annoying buzzing noises whenever we wanted to talk to people on the machines. I never cared much for all the fancy frills. None of it means anything to me. All that matters is what’s in the soul of a work of art. If anything, this soul is conveyed deeper when a website is stripped of all the bells and whistles and you see its heart laid bare.

“Is this game real?”
No. Technically speaking, Chaoscraft does not exist as a game now. It exists as a game concept and ongoing experiment. It will exist as a real game soon. This takes community commitment beyond aesthetic and conceptual interest. It takes making the game yourself, both in the form of direct development and every other form customary of indie devs. So no, Chaoscraft isn’t real, and won’t be until you choose to make it real.

“What’s with the fixation on it being rated M?”
I always loved rated M games. I played my first rated M title when I was about 6 or 7. It’s probably why I’m so fucked in the head. I could tell, all the way back then, there is something about spooky, bloody games that speaks to what life really is, without the creampuff illusions games are relegated to since it was discovered blood is seen as quite unsavory by some. I am eternally thankful to the beings who spawned me they innocently bought me the cartridge for that fateful game, all those years ago. Its chilling horrors tingle in my veins to this very day.

“Who made the website?”
It’s here I’ll have to adjust my imaginary tie, clear my throat, and prepare a formal credit. Although I devised the original game and website, the creature who actually made this website is a psycho Demon Hunter with an attitude. It wasn’t easy getting it this pretty, as atrocious as the site looks to some. Personally, I’m very pleased. I think it shows you all you need to know: Chaoscraft doesn’t fuck around. Take it or leave it.

“Will launch be scuffed?”
Absolutely. We fully expect bugs, confusion, and mayhem across the board. There will probably be random shenanigans and all sorts of nonsense. One of the ways to counter scuffage is to implement extremely limited server capacity at first, testing with very small groups on secure networks. Do not think we are going to open up the floodgates willy nilly. We know Early Access will be very, very small at first, for good reason.

“Is this a scam?”
No. As hard as it is for some to believe, we are actual indie developers. It is possible this sentiment exists in today’s gaming world because gamers have grown so jaded by the industry. Can you blame them? It is normal some look at a game this far out and ambitious and believe it nothing more than a pipedream. Yet every great innovation begins like this. It was observed long ago how the dreamers of tomorrow are at first scoffed at and dismissed as chasing the impossible. What cannot be denied is that technology is now so advanced practically anything is possible within a digital sphere. All it takes is a commitment to using the right tools.

“Where is a gameplay trailer?”
There is no gameplay trailer. We hope to release a gameplay teaser soon, once we’ve given it the attention to detail it deserves. Until then, we’ll continue to expand the website, the game’s scope and philosophy, and publish development material. We are confident Early Access will be playable in the timeframe we’ve arranged. There is a very, very simple reason for this.

“Do you give a fuck?”
No. It’s difficult to these days. You reach the point you’re so bored by it all you decide there is no fun left in tip-toeing around the Pandora’s box that is game design itself. Why is there so much chaos and gambling and ghastliness and craziness? Because it’s fun. That’s why. You don’t get that kind of fun by giving a fuck. Quite the opposite, actually. You get that kind of fun by seeking fun itself, irrespective of anything else.

“How do I play?”
We will publish an indie launcher soon. Our launcher will feature a friends list and a selection of available games, Chaoscraft being the first. You’ll be able to play Chaoscraft directly from the launcher. Once you log in, you can create a character and enter any world, versus, or journey you desire. Perhaps a better question to ask is, “What is there?” This is something everyone who likes the game will have to see for themselves. There comes a time as a developer you know if you say anything else, the magic is ruined. So, if you like the game, and know in your heart it will exist some day soon, remember that. And don’t forget to say hi to Tipsy on your way through the woods.
